REPRO B74 Christ preaching ("The hundred-guilder print"), c. 1648. (Original size 27.8 x 3.,8 cm)
This print is a combination of events described in chapter 19 of St. Matthew's Gospel: the sick coming to be healed, mothers bringing their children, a rich youth wanting to have eternal life. In the seventeenth century this 'hundred-guilder print'was Rembrandt's most admired etching. Even during his lifetime sums in excess of a hundred guilders were paid for the print on more than one occasion. The image is printed by machine and has a size of 23.5 x 33.5 cm on a sheet of 29 x 38 cm. The paper colour is off white (the photo shows more yellow).
