Catalogue Tentoonstelling Rembrandt Revival
Rembrandt Revival: from 1850 to 1940 an international revival of the art of etching. Many artists were inspired by Rembrandt: Whistler, Bracquemond, Buhot, Haden and many more.
More than fifty years ago, while studying art history at Amsterdam University, Neeke Fraenkel-Schoorl started collecting prints. Since then she kept looking for British and French prints at auctions and dealers. Occasionally she bought Dutch and other European prints, and also American, Canadian, and Japanese. In 2018 there was an exhibition in the museum called 'Rembrandt in Paris' about nineteenth century artists being inspired by Rembrandt. And so the idea arose whether her collection would be up to standard of the Rembrandthuis collection of works on paper. After meeting with the staff of the museum, virtually all prints of her collection have now found their destination. This self-published book celebrates the donation of these prints. The book itself is also a donation to the museum. On the left page the reproductions in colour, on the right page a short biography of the artist and the prints. Divided in eleven chapters, 244 pages, 21.5 x 30.5 cm.
