Treasure Miniature Animals
Rembrandt's Treasure Room: he was not just any artist, he was a scholarly and eminent one, as his exceptional collection of art and rare objects from all over the world proves. Rembrandt collected things not only because he found them interesting, but he and his pupils used them as study material and as a source of inspiration for their own work. In the 17th century it became fashionable among the prosperous Dutch bourgeoise to set up a cabinet of art and rare objects. The flourishing trade with distant lands meant that all sorts of exotic objects could be imported. Because of Rembrandt's bankruptcy and the list of inventory we know what Rembrandt collected. Not only spears, antique sculpture and shells, but also stuffed and mounted animals like the puffer fish. For children we have miniature rubber animals to play with: starfish, puffer fish, crocodile, turtle and butterfly. The miniatures are between 2 and 3 cm. Not suitable for children under 4 years.
