Rembrandt's elephant - following Hansken's footsteps is the story of the most famous elephant in the 17th century. Hansken was born in Sri Lanka and arrived in Amsterdam in 1633. Her owner earned a handsome income by teaching her tricks and touring Europe. Elephants were a great rarity in Europe at that time and wherever she went she evoked amazement and admiration. After her death Hansken's skeleton became the subject of study.

This bookis a follow up of the first edition in 2006.It is a treasury of new facts and insights. Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Marjo Hoedemaker Elephant Foundation in Sri Lanka.
